Antique French Louis XV style painted and parcel-gilt four fold screen with original silk brocade to the front panels c.1880. The carved wood and gesso frame is decorated to one side with scrolls, suns and trailing flowers. We have left the paintwork and gilding totally untouched... there is undoubted wear but it all works well with the overall aesthetic. Colours within the frame are golds/raw umber/browns/celadon green/old white. There is small evidence of historical repairs but everything has been structurally checked and all the original hinges and woodwork are sound and operational. There are no loose joints or wobbles and the screen is entirely operational. Unfortunately we could not save all the original gold/peach silk brocade fabric but we did manage to preserve the entire original front panels by professionally cleaning. The rear panels have been entirely reupholstered in a new dupuoni peach coloured silk. There are some areas of wear and staining (water marks and dark wear zones highlighted ) to the original brocade but if you are accepting of old and original used pieces then this all works extremely well. A really stunning and characterful piece.
