A beautiful near pair of antique Asthetic Movement Anglo-Japanese Jacobean style inlaid mahogany open armchairs possibly designed by E. W. Godwin and made by William Watt circa 1870s.
Waisted in form ribbed back splat featuring intricately carved central foliate motif.
 
The ample circular velvet seats are upholstered in British made Linwood Omega velvets with trim by Samuel & Sons.  The slightly wider chair in a Moss green and the narrower chair in a lighter Leaf green. 
 
The very subtle differences in the chairs sizes and composition (seat width, armchair profile, inlay detail etc) lend itself to a possible female and male design specification when ordered. 
 
The chairs sit on tapering cylindrical legs joined by strong X frame stretchers meeting to a cross form wood block typical of Godwins designs. The chairs have been lightly waxed and show various marks and light indentations to the wood from age/use. The chairs are solid and stable and in very good antique condition.
